Over 90 examples of Millie chairs by Design at Knightsbridge have been installed at the Blunsdon House Hotel just outside Swindon, chosen to complement the hotel’s relaxed ambience and distinctive country house appeal.
Blunsdon House is set in 30 acres of rolling Wiltshire countryside and offers 116 en-suite bedrooms, two restaurants and three bars in addition to extensive conference and leisure facilities. The original structure was probably built as a hunting lodge in the early 1800s, becoming a farm by the 1950s and then turning into a small country club to accommodate visitors to the nearby agricultural show. After a period of steady expansion, Blunsdon House became the first four-star hotel in Wiltshire in 1980 and was awarded Best Western ‘Premier’ status in 2005.
The Millie chairs were specified for the hotel as part of an extensive refurbishment scheme. Created for Design at Knightsbridge by Design Consultant Jim Wright, Millie features softly curvaceous lines and elegant shaped legs and includes club chairs, easy chairs and upright seating tailored for everywhere within the hotel and leisure arena, from receptions, foyers and meeting rooms to bars, restaurants and bedrooms.
The order installed at Blunsdon House Hotel includes 40 compact club chairs with wear-resistant show-wood arms in a Cherry finish, together with 52 upright open armchairs. All have been fitted with metal foot protection and are upholstered in Aquarius fabric in shades of Emerald, Navy and Apple.
Manufactured by Knightsbridge in the UK, drawing on skills honed during the company’s 70-plus years of furniture design and production, Millie is based upon a traditionally-jointed beech frame, with ergonomically-shaped high resilience foam providing both comfort and support to the seat and back. All models can be upholstered in either fabric or hide to suit customer requirements and six standard wood-stain finishes are offered: Natural Beech, Oak, Cherry, Steamed Beech, Walnut and Wenge.
